JISP’s Emergency Response Team has been continuing our work in some of the most severely affected areas of Tohoku, mainly in Ohsato town (Miyagi Prefecture), Date city and Kawamata town in Fukushima Prefecture. As the municipal governments, Social Welfare Council and Support Organizations respond to survivor’s urgent needs in coordination, many of the affected communities struggle to urgently establish policies to help recovery of survivor’s lives in a longer term. Our Emergency Team have been repeatedly coordinating with the municipal government offices, Social Welfare Council and other stakeholders in the above areas to provide the most efficient and timely support, whilst valuing coordination.
JISP has been providing psychological first aid, consultations, as well as physical relief to vulnerable survivors, by dispatching resources trained in physical therapy and psychosocial care to evacuation shelters. We then return their feedbacks to the municipal governments and Social Welfare Council, in order to ensure that the survivor’s needs are addressed. Parallelly, our staff assess the material needs of evacuation shelter and community distribution points, and provide relief materials such as food, hygiene goods, cleaning items based on their requests in a timely manner.
