Dylan is one of the incredible children in our Cleft Infant Nutrition Program. He is the second child of Vitalina and Alfredo, a family living in La Tinta, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. Alfredo is an elementary school teacher, and Vitalina, a stay-at-home mom, speaks only Q’eqchi’ (Mayan Language).
When Dylan was born with a cleft lip, it was a challenging moment for his family—no one in their family had experienced this condition before.
In November, Dylan achieved a significant milestone—he reached the target weight required to undergo cleft lip repair surgery! His family expressed immense gratitude for the ongoing support they’ve received from the program.
Thanks to the guidance and support of Marta, their dedicated health promoter, Dylan's family has received essential resources and education to help him thrive. Marta works closely with a community nutritionist to ensure personalized counseling for Dylan's mother, Vitalina, offering tailored advice and support to improve Dylan’s overall health and nutrition.
Over the past three months, Dylan has shown remarkable progress in his overall growth and health. Between October and February, he has grown a total of 5 cm, reaching 68 cm, and gained 2.2 pounds, now weighing 15 pounds. With these improvements, he has achieved a normal nutritional status.
We continue to monitor Dylan closely through our Nutrition Program, ensuring he grows and develops healthily.
