The Community-based Disability Awareness & Support program has enrolled over 1,000 families living in poverty who have children with disabilities across 6 provinces. The program initiates community and family-based dialogues about disability that lead to positive behavior change toward children with disabilities. The program also provides practical support, including trainings, cash stipends, healthcare referrals, physiotherapy & psychosocial support and access to education and other services.
Over the past 4 months, we raised enough funds through GlobalGiving to reach at least 2 additional families with life-changing support for their child with a disability. Our team members in Afghanistan recently visited Bamiyan province, a secluded province in the heart of Afghanistan, to bring you these three stories of girls whose lives have been transformed through ECI's assistance:
1) Sahar was unable to attend school due to a physical disability to her feet that required therapy. Our team, in collaboration with her family, helped improve her mobility. Watch her story here.
2) ECI helped Soraya get access to an operation she needed to help her walk. Our team in Bamyan province worked together with her family to make sure she could have the surgery. Watch her story here.
3) Nasrin and her younger sister Hajar were initially unable to walk due to physical disability that required therapy. This video shows how ECI helped them access support and treatment to help them walk.

Thank you for your support!
