Dear Friend,
Community based disability awareness and support is an important and effective way to make lasting change. Here we want to share a story of Sakina,
Sakina is a 5-year-old girl with a physical disability who lives in a poor family in Balkh, Afghanistan. Her family is poor and could not afford to meet her needs. Sakina needed health services and proper care.
The ECI Balkh team enrolled Sakina in its support program and distributed cash assistance of 10,800 Afghani to Her caretaker to take care of their child's needs. To better address Sakina's critical needs, the ECI team prepared action plans for them to use the money accordingly. Also, the ECI team referred him to the Handicap International organization health center for physiotherapy and family counseling.
Additionally, the ECI team provided required awareness about disability, proper care, the importance of mental health, and the rights of a child with a disability for the child's caretaker.
After receiving ECI services, Sakina is in great condition; Due to his physical disability, the star was lying down all the time, he could neither stand up nor sit down, this situation depressed him and made his condition dire.
The ECI team provided the necessary services for him and referred him to one of the health centers for a physical therapy examination. She was examined and received an aid to get up and play. The star's mother is doing ECI according to the doctor's and team's instructions, and her child's condition has made remarkable changes. She thanked the cooperation and services of ECI.
These success stories are possible thank to kind support from individual and organizations who, like ECI believes that disability is not inability!
Best regards,
ECI team
Success story is shared with a consent.
