Hurricane Harvey has left more than 1 million children in Texas unable to start school, with up to 3 million impacted across the region. UNICEF USA will support the ongoing rebuilding efforts, focused on schools and educational systems in Texas, helping to get all children back to school and back to learning. 100% of donations will go directly to assist children.
Approximately 13 million people in both Texas and Louisiana have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, of which close to three million are children in the hardest-hit areas. These children have literally seen their lives washed away - they have lost homes, schools, communities, and with that, their sense of security, normalcy and well-being.
UNICEF USA will leverage partnerships on the ground in Texas to provide access to resources, protection and assistance to the most vulnerable children. UNICEF USA is prepared to support authorities' efforts to get the most vulnerable children back to school in safe, healthy learning environments as quickly as possible. This means providing school supplies, uniforms and in some cases, identifying interim or temporary classrooms due to extensive damage to school buildings.
UNICEF USA will contribute to the recovery effort by working with the local and regional partners that are providing direct relief services to ensure the most vulnerable children and their families have what they need to stay safe and protected in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
