By Delali Kumapley | Prize Coordinator, Golden Baobab
Dear Friends,
It is with so much joy that we write to give you updates on the Golden Baobab Prizes for Illustrations. As you might know already, the deadline for submissions for the Golden Baobab Prizes for Illustrations officially ended on Sunday, June 29th 2014 but due to overwhelming demand, we extended the deadline to Friday, August 22, 2014. This was to give artists, designers and illustrators enough time to complete and submit their illustrations.
We have received fantastic entries from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana and Morocco and we are certain many more brilliant entries will flood in as we approach the deadline. The winner of the Golden Baobab Prize for Illustrators reeceives a cash prize of $5,000 while the Rising Illustrator receives $2,500.
We have translated the submission rules to three other languages namely, French, Portuguese and Arabic. We identified the need of non-English African artists, designers and illustrators who would love to submit illustrations and we know this approach will enable them understand the submission process to enter the Prize. Currently, we are designing the Evaluations Handbook which will guide our judges to select standard illustrations that kids will immediately fall in love with. We look forward to unveiling our judges to the rest of the world in the coming months.
We wish to express our sincerest gratitude for your continuous contribution and support for the Golden Baobab Prizes. We trust you are satisfied with what Golden Baobab is achieving with your donations and we know in a few years, our dream of filling the world with wonder and possibilities, one children book at a time, will be realized.
We say thank you once again and we encourage you to tell family and friends about Golden Baobab and the work we are doing.
