SPARC provides day support, case management, continuing education, advoacy and skills to navigate the community. As one of our member explained, "We put the CAN in can't!"
Since the pandemic struck, our club members have come together five days a week learning, engaging and exploring! Thanks for a new partnership with Dynamic Links, we are participating in music therapy!
Omicron Ro, a service sorority at George Mason University launched a new project called "SPARC Art in a Box." The sorority collects craft and art supplies to augment our online art therapy classes.
Led by our staff, our club members have explored New Orleans, Japan and learned about exotic pets and the impact the release of those pets have on the environment.
In peer group we have had terrific discussions on how to solve communication problems with room mates. Led by our social workers, club members have benefited from moderated discussions and peer input to increase communication strategies to improve their day to day life.
We also launched a new Advisory Board made up of club members to provide input to our Board of Directors. The first project is to develop by laws and a year long communications plan.
As one of our members recently reported in a public meeting, "I had a thriving career in highschool, but did not fit into any programs after graduation. Before finding SPARC, I felt like I had aged out of life when I turned 22." Thanks to SPARC, I have a rich life where I am engaged in learning, socializing and I have a voice in the community.
