It's been a tough year in Haiti, with insecurity, gang violence, and fuel shortages shutting down much of Port-au-Prince and forcing us to cancel classes for 8 weeks this fall. That said, we are committed to keeping EIM going strong as a force for good in our community.
We have a staff of 15 people who rely on the stable income EIM provides despite pauses in our program. We're raising money to keep these salaries going throughout the year. We are also raising money for a new Emergency Fund that will enable us to provide extra support to staff members who experience medical emergencies or acts of theft and violence. We feel honored to have the opportunity to be there when it's needed most.
English in Mind is an educational oasis for over 200 students and teachers striving for an edge in the employment world. In Haiti someone with a high school degree who speaks English will often be chosen for work over someone with a university degree who does not. It's just that powerful.
