Follow-up to the Regional Working Group activities

By Maria Silvia Emanuelli | Coordinator

In 2023, the Regional Working Group (RWG) on Social Production of Habitat (SPH) had its Eighth Meeting  in the city of Caracas, Venezuela. In follow-up to the proposals outlined in this meeting, we are currently in the process of preparing the Ninth Regional Meeting which may be held in a hybrid format that will allow for greater participation and, therefore, a diverse dialogue. While the methodology and contents are still under discussion, the overall objective is that this meeting will allow for an opportunity to update the different contexts in relation to housing that some countries of the region are going through, as well as to suggest next actions that will broaden the impact of SPH and the work of the RWG itself.

Additionally, we have had other opportunities in which we have been able to encourage discussions on various community processes. In June, a three-day workshop was held in the state of Puebla, Mexico, in collaboration with three partners from different states of the Mexican Republic. There was an exchange of experiences regarding the processes these actors have implemented, as is the case of the Union of Tosepan Cooperatives, in Puebla, one of the most outstanding experiences within the cooperative movement in Mexico, which includes a housing cooperative that allows members to improve the conditions of their properties to transform them into sustainable homes. This workshop was an important occasion for alliance-building and provided an opportunity for social actors to learn about a wide variety of experiences from which they can adapt measures and strategies for their own processes.
