Siaya County has a population of 842,304 (2009 census) with more than 50% orphaned or vulnerable children. School drop out rate of orphans in the County is about 90%. Even though the guardians are working hard to provide for the orphans education, for a better future, the poverty level of 65% has placed heavy load in the affected households and in effect subjected the orphans to a cycle of destitution. This project will affect 200 plus orphans to achieve education for a better tomorrow

Common cause of orphans education drop out is starvation and lack of basic needs. Tears of Hope provides nutrition noon meals, sanitary towels, learning materials and supplements the tuition fees. The guardians are visited and counseled.

Long-Term Impact

The project will support 200 orphans to complete education allowing them to break the poverty cycle, which then will flow down to provide for their families health and well -being thereby reducing the district poverty level.
