In rural Marsabit, too many girls lose their childhoods to harmful cultural practices such as FGM and early marriage, their dreams silenced before they begin. The Pastoralist Girls Mentorship Program changes that-offering mentorship, life skills, and empowering parents to protect their daughters against abuse and exploitation. It's more than support; it's a lifeline to hope, dignity, and the chance for every girl to dream, grow, and lead.
Like in many rural villages in Kenya, many girls in Marsabit grow up believing they have no choice-trapped by poverty, early marriage, and harmful cultural practices like FGM. Their families, often unaware of their rights, see no alternatives. With no mentors, safe spaces, or guidance, these girls are left without hope or opportunity. Without intervention, too many will leave school, too many will be silenced-and their dreams lost before they begin.
We empower vulnerable girls in rural Marsabit by pairing them with mentors, building their confidence and life skills to resist early marriage, FGM, and exploitation. Through training in leadership and resilience, they see themselves as agents of change. At the same time, we engage parents through workshops to raise awareness on child rights and harmful practices, helping families create safe, supportive spaces where girls can thrive.
Empowered girls grow into confident, self-reliant women who challenge harmful traditions. Their strength leads to fewer cases of FGM, early marriage, and school dropouts, creating a future where girls in the community can dream freely and build lives full of opportunity and hope.
