This project will mentor pastoralist school-going girls in rural Marsabit, helping them reach their full potential in education and social lives. It will conduct life skills sessions for these girls, equipping them with knowledge and skills to make informed decisions early in life. These sessions will cover topics like FGM, early marriages, and children's rights, and will be facilitated by experts and female leaders from the community who have achieved significant success in their lives.
There is a high number of girls vulnerable to early marriages, FGM, and lacking life skills, leading to school dropouts. These girls often come from poor and ultra-poor families in rural Marsabit County. Their parents are mainly illiterate who lack the knowledge of human rights hence do not know where to run to in case of abuse of their children by adults who lure them with little monies. Many a times, these parents marry off girls early in exchange for dowery to earn income.
The project will conduct 5-day motivational talks with girls from different parts of the county. By collaborating with various experts, the project will support nomadic girls in transitioning from primary education to professional lives and equip them to handle life challenges.
Empowered and enlightened girls will grow into productive, self-sustaining women who can challenge harmful cultural practices. This will lead to a reduction in FGM, early marriages, and school dropouts in the community.
