Progress Report

By Rossette Ainepurani | Project Leader

Our dear friends and partners

We trust this progress report finds you in utmost good health.

We are glad to update you about our project ‘SUPPORT A GIRL CHILD WITH MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS’’ which you massively supported financially.

We are determined to keep supporting school going girls with menstrual products so that they can menstruate with dignity and keep in school.

The first term of 2024 began on 5th February, and we had to wait for all girls to report to school and we implemented this in march.

We are happy to let you know that with your support, we were able to reach out to 41 girls with Sanitary pads, from St. Kiziito Primary School, in Mukono District.

We jointly collaborated with our project team, local authorities, school administration and teachers to successfully implement these activities.

Impact of this project

Our interactions with them was much more fulfilling as it was tailored with reproductive health sessions which connect well with menstruation.

Girls were able to understand what to expect when they begin experiencing menstruation.

They were able to understand how to maintain good hygiene during their time of menstruation.

They got to understand that periods happen to every normal female below the age of menopause. This did not only help them acquire knowledge but also helped in breaking stigma around menstruation. They now see periods as something normal, un like before. With our sensitization, we believe that they will not shy away from attending classes during their time of menstruation.

This project improved the self- esteem of the girls as it became a big opportunity for them to ask a number of questions regarding menstruation. Girls will be able to concentrate on their studies without getting worried of periods.

Improved academic performance, which will lead to excellence, as they will not be missing class lessons, during their time of menstruation.

Many girls came to realize that indeed once they engage in sex when they have already started menstruating, they are likely to conceive, unlike before when most of these girls didn’t know. This will help them avoid early sex.

Financial relief in the families of these girls has been realized as they will use the money which was meant for buying sanitary pads to access other basic needs like soap and Vaseline.

Knowing how to properly fix a pad on the nicker was so much fulfilling to these girls. Unlike before where a number of them didn’t know how to properly attach a sanitary pad unto the nickers. We took them through illustrations on how to do so, and they were very excited. This will prevent future spotting, as many of them were putting on pads wrongly, and the blood end up leaking and staining their uniforms. This will in turn save them from embarrassment from their peers in class. And we couldn’t have achieved all this without your support.

The innocent smiles, accompanied with gratitude and joy were extremely heartwarming. The girls were humbled to receive the sanitary pads and tasked us to extend their sincere appreciations to the donors. There is no doubt that this project has increased happiness and reduced suffering in terms of period poverty among these school going girls.

With your generosity, this project has also served as an opportunity to challenge teachers to support girls during their period times through providing emotional support and first aid when the need arises. The teachers were excited to receive us and promised to always collaborate with us as key stakeholders in shaping the equal future of the girl child (accelerating progress towards Gender Equality).

Way forward

We shall keep engaged with these girls to best address their concerns regarding menstrual Hygiene and Management to ensure they keep in school and attain a bright future. We shall continue to mobilize for them resources to help them manage their periods with dignity, and we are hopeful that this project objective will be achieved and sustained with your support.

We once again thank you for your generosity and ensuring that this project continues to support school going girls with menstrual products in order to let girls menstruate with dignity, breaking stigma around menstruation, ending period poverty and keeping girls in school to End child marriage and Teenage pregnancies. We believe that with your continued support, we shall achieve an equal future of women and girls together.

We are grateful, always!

Wellness wishes and Blessings.
