Most girls from rural schools struggle to access and afford menstrual products like pads and nickers which make them miss school lessons. Some girls start befriending men in trading centers in their villages so that they can offer them cash to buy the sanitary pads. In the end this has costed so many girls to fall victims of child marriages and teenage pregnancies. And most girls, when they acquire teenage pregnancies, they drop out of school. Let's break menstrual stigma together.
For years, many disadvantaged girls in rural areas have struggled to afford or even get closer to the budget of decent sanitary pads to contain their monthly menstruation periods. This has therefore resulted into menstrual stigma whereby the underprivileged girls can hardly experience their menstruation periods with dignity. The bitter truth of the matter is that lack of sanitary pads has forcefully exited many girls from schools because they can hardly handle the stigma.
Girls who will benefit from the project will not drop out of school just because of lack of sanitary pads. The number of girls who are falling victims of child marriage will be reduced. Ending menstrual stigma promotes gender equality, whereby girls will be able to compete with boys without barriers The project will help on retention of girls in school.
Girls who keep in school break the cycles of poverty in their homes Girls who benefit will also be able to help others acquire sanitary pads and training them on menstrual hygiene and management. There will be a generation of empowered women in communities which can boost the economy of the country. Teenage pregnancies and child marriages will reduce among school going girls.
