Celebrating our first graduating class at Primavera High School!

CasaSito's 2016 Primavera High School graduates!

The year 2016 was full of success and celebration for CasaSito Association. Thanks to generous supporters like you, we could celebrate our first graduating class at Primavera High School in November 2016!

After receiving a proposal from a community member asking for CasaSito support them, our founders Alice and Greg decided to visit the rural community of Primavera, located in the department of Quiché in 2008. Upon meeting with members of the community, they saw the need and desire for education, thus CasaSito expanded its services to Primavera.

CasaSito with the support of partner Developing Scholars, was able to establish IGER (Instituto Guatemalteco de Educación Radiofónica), a specialized education offered to adults wanting to earn their high school diploma. At that time, IGER classes were held in an old classroom at the local primary school. Due to the classroom’s poor conditions, students decided to study outside under a tree. Seeing the need for a formal high school, CasaSito, Developing Scholars, and Eltham College in Australia, came together to create and establish Primavera High School in 2013. The school opened and welcomed its first group of students in 2014. The school started with one classroom and has now grown to six! Since the school’s creation, CasaSito has provided teacher training, scholarships, and supported the community’s youth group to better support high school education in the community.

On November 5, 2016, Primavera High School held a ceremony for its first graduating class of 74 students! Of these 74 students, 12 were scholars of CasaSito. In addition, 47% of graduates were women! Our Executive Director, Rebecca, attended the graduation and stated, “it was very magical because the whole community was there. They had stayed awake till 2 ‘o’ clock in the morning to decorate for the graduation. You could feel what education means to the community and how much they value it. I felt privileged to be part of such an experience.”

We are beyond proud of our scholars and all the graduated students at Primavera High School. We could not do the work we do without supporters like you. Your continued support allows us to expand our services and truly make a difference in education. Thank you for all that you do for CasaSito Association!
