We believe that education is the most powerful resource for personal, family and community development. Our initial goal was to help students break the cycle of poverty through financial aid. However, with time and experience we realized that financial assistance was not sufficient. This is why CasaSito developed a holistic program that also includes psycho-social support, workshops, club activities, and volunteerism. This encourages the students’ personal growth and helps to form future leaders who can create permanent change for themselves, their families, and their communities.  Check out the blog entery of 2 of our scholars and their input on their club activities.

JESUS

My name is Jesús, I am 17 year old and, I´d like to share with you one of my biggest experiences. This experience is about CasaSito Association. CasaSito has a youth development program that provides scholarships and I have the big opportunity to be a part of CasaSito as a Scholar. There are different clubs and activities in CasaSito In which I like to participate because they help me to uncover things that I thought I couldn´t do or make. I have reinforced my strengths and I have overcome my fears, such as speaking in front of people and, trying not to be. In the volunteer group o CasaSito we dedicates to do social activities to help people who needs help. Last month we visited the Fray Rodrigo nursing home. Sharing with the elderly al the nursing home made me appreciate even more the people I have around me, because some of the people who were in Fray Guillermo were abandoned and almost forgotten there. It was an experience that made me feel pleased with myself to be able to share a little bit of my time with these amazing people and it was even better to share with all my friends from CasaSito who work for the same cause. Being a part of CasaSito, not only helps me to continue my studies, it also helps me to be a beter person every day. I wouldn´t  change this experience in my life.

VALERY

Debate club is a 12 week program that started in February. We learned how to investigate a topic, create a winning argument, and how to present our point of view. Then we put in practice the theoretical knowledge through various presentations with topics that our teacher gave us. This year we weren’t a lot of members in the debate club, and it was great because we had more time to prepare. Our semifinal was on ‘should public transport be owned by private entities.’ We were organized into pairs and Carolina and I had to defend a positive stance, and we won! Making it to the finals. During this process I learned how to discuss and defend my point view and made new friends. I think my partner and I were a united team. We felt the satisfaction of having done a good research and that was an engine that helped us to win. I would like to thank CasaSito and Developing Scholars for creating the debate club, and Manuela and Alejandra who taught us many things and were always there to support us.
