Students become Nurses - Cap, Badge, and Candle ceremony

By Albert Santoli | Project Leader

2024 Class Advancing March 2022
2024 Class Advancing March 2022
Dear Friends of AAI,
On March 15, 2022, the 2024 Nursing class graduated to the next level at Sulu State College School of Nursing. Asia America Initiative is an active sponsor of the Nursing students, providing study materials, uniforms, and tuition as well as medical books for the school library.  We were very touched to see the young Muslim pre-Nursing students advance to become Student Nurses and begin their in-hospital practice for their 3rd year of studies. As the COVID-19 pandemic has receded, this year's ceremony was held in person.
"Excellence is a core value of the Sulu State College School of Nursing," states Dr. Charisma, the President of SSC and herself a licensed Registered Nurse. "These values pertain to producing globally competitive nurses guided by the principles of solidarity, professionalism, integrity, and commitment. The student nurses strived hard to adapt to the changes brought about by the new normal. They have shown perseverance and determination amidst difficulties and have finally arrived at this moment. The nursing cap for females and the badge for the male nursing students signifies servitude, respectability, and responsibility. The lighting of the candle signifies tradition, service, and acceptance of the challenges of the nursing profession."
The SSC School of Nursing has come far from its early days with assistance from AAI, regional donors, and local community members. The students prepare for standardized national exams and continue to achieve high scores which will bring them great success in their future endeavors. We congratulate the Class of 2024 for their achievements to date and wish them well in the hospital training.
