Destiny Children and Family Support Group aims to support 50 children with learning disabilities. This project support children with special needs such as Autism, ADHD, speech or learning disabilities, through tutoring, educational trips, social activities and family support to carers. We aim to provide a safe social and interactive environment for these children to build confidence, supporting them in their school homework on how to read and write to excel in school and connect with others.
There are 286,000 children aged 0-17 years with a learning disability in the UK. However, they are under-represented and still face disadvantages within the education system. Children with a learning disability may take longer to learn and need support in developing new skills, understanding information and interacting with others. Furthermore, the families of children with special needs can feel isolated and stressed without short break, due to the lack of affordable activities for their child.
This project aims to fight discrimination, prevent social isolation and vulnerability. With the right support, children with learning disabilities can lead fulfilling lives in the way they choose. This project will provide weekly tutoring sessions to children , creative social activities, family day outings and educational trips during school holidays. This will help children reach their education goals, increase their self-esteem, develop creative social skills, communication and understanding.
The project will help the children to succeed in school and will assist their families with other social needs so the children will grow up to be healthier and will have a better level of education. This will give them more employment prospects as adults in the future. This project will have an ongoing effect through the generations. These children will be literate, integrate socially and they will then be able to support their own children in their education as they became adults in the future.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
