Support 430 children with cancer in Colombia!

Esta vez queremos compartir con ustedes nuestros talleres de arte terapia, los cuales han logrado generar muchas sonrisas y alegría a los niños de la Fundación.

Estos talleres tienen como objetivo brindar apoyo psicológico a través del arte como terapia a los niños con cáncer que asisten al servicio de Oncología de dos hospitales de la ciudad de Bogotá, con el propósito de fomentar una sana distracción, aprendizaje y la expresión de sentimientos y emociones asociados al diagnóstico y tratamiento del cáncer. Generalmente, esta actividad se lleva a cabo en las salas de quimioterapia de los hospitales y en las habitaciones de los niños; son guiados por un profesional en artes plásticas con el apoyo de la Psicóloga Coordinadora del programa.

En total se realizan 5 sesiones a la semana de 2 horas cada una, en donde se   desarrolla una técnica o actividad específica propuesta por el facilitador y se involucra a los padres y/o cuidadores de los niños. Algunas de las actividades realizadas son origami, figuras con Foamy, tarjetas en diferentes materiales, mascaras, manillas, tejidos, entre otros.

Los padres y cuidadores manifiestan los grandes beneficios de estos talleres,  ya que logran disminuir la ansiedad y el estrés en los niños y en ellos como cuidadores. Además, se ha convertido en un método para que los niños se sigan sintiendo útiles a pesar de sus condiciones actuales.

El padre de un paciente de Leucemia de 10 años manifiesta “Estos espacios son un momento de distracción y de entretenimiento en dónde los niños pueden compartir con otros y además nosotros como padres también nos involucramos ayudándolos. Por lo menos mi hijo ha continuado realizando estas actividades en su tiempo libre en el hospital y en casa, y con esto aprovecha el tiempo y siente mejor, se anima mucho cuando sabe que puede participar en los talleres y le encantan”.

Queremos contarte también que en lo que va del año 2015, hemos logrado llegar a 254 niños, brindando apoyo emocional para los padres, información y educación acerca de la enfermedad de sus hijos y de sus derechos en materia de salud.

Se han realizado 59 sesiones de Arte-terapia a las cuales han asistido 36 niños y sus familias.

Por último, se han entregado hasta el momento 54 auxilios de transporte para 25 familias,  y se ha realizado el primer grupo de apoyo para padres tratando el tema de  temores frecuentes en los padres y cuidados a los hermanos del niño con cáncer.  El próximo 29 de Mayo tendremos nuestro siguiente grupo de apoyo acerca de cómo ayudar a prevenir infecciones.

This time we want to share our art therapy workshops, which have generated a lot of smiles and joy to children Foundation.

These workshops aim to provide psychological support through art therapy for children with cancer attending the Oncology service at two hospitals in the city of Bogota, in order to foster a healthy distraction, learning and expression of feelings and emotions associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Generally, this activity takes place in the halls of hospitals and chemotherapy in children's rooms; They are led by a professional in visual arts with the support of the Psychologist Program Coordinator.

In total 5 sessions are performed a week of two hours each, where any technique or specific activity proposed by the facilitator and parents and / or caregivers of children involved develops. Some of the activities are origami figures Foamy cards in different materials, masks, handcuffs, textiles, among others.

Parents and caregivers demonstrate the great benefits of these workshops, since managed to reduce anxiety and stress in children and their caregivers. Moreover, it has become a way for children to continue to feel useful despite its current condition.

The father of a patient of leukemia 10 years says "These spaces are a moment of distraction and entertainment where kids can share with others, and also we as parents also got involved helping. At least my son has continued to carry out these activities in their spare time in the hospital and at home, and with this advantage the time and feel better, much encouraged when he knows he can participate in workshops and loves ".

We also tell you that so far in 2015, we managed to reach 254 children, providing emotional support for parents, information and education about the illness of their children and their rights in health.
59 sessions have been held Art-therapy which was attended by 36 children and their families.
Finally, they have given so far 54 transport aid to 25 families, and performed the first support group for parents dealing with the subject of frequent fears in parents and care for siblings of children with cancer. The next May 29 will have our next support group about how to help prevent infection.
