Emily is 3 years old, she is a happy, intelligent and curious girl. She loves to dance and share with other children. In March Emily was diagnosed with acute leukemia, of course her mother and the whole family were filled with fear and uncertainty, not only for receiving an unexpected diagnosis in her little daughter, but for having to start cancer treatment in the middle of the health emergency due to Covid-19.
Emily started her treatment and despite biosecurity protocols, she caught COVID-19. Her mother not only had one reason to be worried, now there were two. The girl had to assume the respective quarantine in the hospital. During those long days of isolation, our psychologist maintained telephone contact with the mother, to provide emotional support and hope in the midst of difficulties.
Fortunately, Emily's recovery was very fast and after 14 days she was able to restart her chemotherapy treatment. One of the medical recommendations was not to use public transport service, because it is likely that the contagion has occurred there, because of this, from the Foundation we have contributed with a private transport service for the girl and her mother. In this way they have been able to move home-hospital, hospital-home and it has been safer and more comfortable.
The health emergency continues and every day we have more children requiring support with transportation services. Would you like to contribute in the private transportation of Emily and other children with cancer?
