Glad's House wants to support 30 of Mombasa's most challenging young people off the streets of and move them into our Transitional Home and Boxing Programme. Some of these young people have been on the streets for 10 years, some for even longer. There are no options for them any more. We want to give them back those options and work with them to turn their lives around through sport and education and to move into independent living and education, employment and/or training.
There are a significant amount of young people living and working on the streets that are deemed 'too challenging', 'too hard to reach' and 'too old' to work with. These young men aged 15 - 25 have spent long periods of their lives homeless on the streets of Kenya. They have incredible skills having spent years ensuring their daily survival on the streets. Glad's House recognises these skills and the potential to use these skills away from the streets and in safer more positive environment
Glad's House Boxing Programme works with young men aged 15 - 25 who have been street homeless for long periods of time. Our 6 month Programme offers them the opportunity to engage in Boxing as a tool to improve the health of these young people after years of substance misuse, poor diet and little exercise. Alongside we deliver education, counselling and individual plans to move forward in their lives positively and to ensure each child or young person realises their full potential.
"If I was still on the streets, maybe I could have been lynched by mob justice or in prison for different reasons. Boxing has not changed me but also saved my life." A young person tells us how this programme has impacted his life Our Programme will ensure 30 young people are able to move away from a life on the streets and the negative impact that has on their lives. We ensure they move forward positively in their lives, eventually living and working and/or learning in their community.
