In September 2015, a few months ago, TaLI launched a campaigne where we intended to raise atleast $5000 to assit survivors of rape and other forms of abuse our clients go through, especially girls and young women. To that the two week campaign's successes were seen through raising a total of $800.00 which the Global Giving has since disbursed to us. From the end of October when we received the funds todate, 12 cases of abuse were received in the organisation through our TaLI Community Peer Educators in the different districts of the Midlands Province. We then used some of the funds to respond to these cases of abuse. The cases varied from sexual abuse to child neglect, but mostly were sexual in nurture. Most of these victims were within the age range of 6 years to 18 years of age.
It is important to note that TaLI works with other partners such as government departments like the Department of Child Welfare and Probation Services and the Zimbabwe Republic Police. We provide transport to facilitate for home visits for the investigation of the cases. The funds raised also helped in the reintegration some of the victims of abuse with their families and also putting them in places of safety.
An example of the cases responded to over the period is that of a 13 year old victim in the Shurugwi District who was suffering from emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her stepmother. This grant assisted us to help her relocate to a place of safety thus in Masvingo where she now lives with her maternal grandmother. Masvingo is more than 100km away from Shurugwi District. TaLI provided fuel for this case and refreshments for the officers including one from TaLI, who responded to this case of abuse.. This is just, but one of the many examples of how the money was spent.
As you already know, TaLI is a Girl Child Rights organisation whose mission is 'To Make the World a Safe Place for the Girl Child', and ofcourse we begin with our communities, one girl at a time. We do appreciate the support and help you gave us during the fundraising period. May i also take the opportunity to let you know that the Fundraising Link is still open for us to use to give and to also ask other to do the same. This will be open until December the 31st. Please tell us what you think we can do to be able to attract more support from others.
We will take this opportunity to Wish You, The most awesome Complements of The Season, we say be the eyes and ears of child safety in your community, especially the Girl Child and the Young Woman. We also recognise the ongoing 16 Days of Activism to speak against Gender Based Violence. Lets all do our part in preventing this!
