On February 22, 120 families in San Mateo, Burgos, Siargao Island received their solar light, water purifier, sleeping mat, hygiene kit, medical kit and relief goods thanks to donations received by Global Peace Foundation Philippines from concerned individuals and GlobalGiving. Last month, Global Peace Foundation Philippines received a $10,000 donation from GlobalGiving which helped achieve the goal of providing assistance to 120 families affected by Super Typhoon Odette.
When Super Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines last year, Burgos was one of the devastated municipalities. Families in Brgy. San Mateo were left without access to electricity and clean water at the aftermath of the typhoon.
Local government officials of Burgos, Siargao Island, headed by Mayor Emmanuel Arcena, were present at the turnover to provide logistic assistance and to personally express their thanks to Global Peace Foundation and the donors who made the activity possible for the benefit of dozens of marginalized families affected by the disaster.
Following the turnover, GPF will return to Burgos, Siargao Island next month to turn over school supplies to the students of San Mateo Elementary School.
This project was supported by the Provincial Government of Surigao Del Norte, Municipality of Burgos Siargao Island and Cebu Pacific, our official airline partner.
