Summer is coming, schools close down and vunerable children in care need safe spaces to occupy their free time. With your help, we can provide Summer Circus Camp during the month of August for 30 girls at Maria Goretti's shelter.
The shelter provides protection, housing and comprehensive training to girls between the ages of 7 to 18 who are in a situation of vulnerability or adoptability, guaranteeing the reestablishment of rights that are threatened or violated. During the summer, the lack of activities means the young girls slip away from the Maria Goretti's Hogar. This is a moment of high risk.
The Summer Circus Camp will provide a positive full time activity. It's a fun time and empowering, learning new skills through play. Also a chance to face problems of body image issues and the lack of self worth which affects the girls capacity to thrive. The girls will stay in the institution, far away from negative influences, and protecting them from the slippery slope of illegal ways to make money.
The Summer Circus Camp will install social skills which will feed into other areas of the girls lives: Where they learn will-power and team work. Everyday practice of cooperation and solidarity. It's a secure environment with which to belong and identify.
