Summary

The average Ugandan schoolgirls face multiple barriers to education; poverty, GBV, early marriage, and cultural taboos that limit SRHR knowledge and expose them to sugar daddy exploitation, HIV/STIs, early pregnancy, and school dropout. This project will deliver 12 age-appropriate SDA sessions for 360 girls (14-19 years), focusing on prevention, empowerment, informed decision-making, and resisting sexual exploitation to protect dignity, improve school retention, and build resilient communities.

Challenge

The Ugandan girl child faces multiple barriers to education; poverty, GBV, early marriage, economic hardships and restrictive cultural norms. Sex conversations remain taboo, leaving young girls without SRHR information and exposure to HIV/STIs, early/unintended pregnancy, school dropout and long-term psychosocial harm. School girls are targeted by older men (sugar daddies) who exploit their vulnerability through transactional and intergenerational sexual relationships, this needs to be addressed

Solution

The project will deliver 12 one-day age appropriate and culturally sensitive SDA sessions that address the realities school going girls face; pressure to exchange sex for basic needs. 360 girls will be organized into two cohorts. Cohort 1: (14, 15, and 16 years) Cohort 2: (17, 18, and 19 years) Emphasize will be on prevention, empowerment, and mindset change, informed decision making, resisting sexual exploitation and prioritizing education and wellbeing rather than fear based messaging.

Long-Term Impact

The project will promote dignity of the girl child and contribute to increased school retention and completion rates, improved knowledge of SRH, and reduced vulnerability to HIV, STIs, teenage pregnancy and school dropout. Over time, challenging intergenerational sex as a barrier to girls' education will contribute to stronger, healthier and resilient communities where girls are empowered to reach their full potential and participate meaningfully in social and economic development.
