Building a positive school environment takes more than academic instruction. Children also need opportunities to develop respect, responsibility, compassion, and the social skills that help them build healthy relationships and contribute positively to their communities.
During this reporting period, Eshiandukusi Primary School hosted a Virtues Exchange Program, bringing together 105 teachers and students from eight schools for a day of sharing, learning, and collaboration.
The exchange brought together schools at different stages of implementing The Virtues Project. Through demonstrations and discussions, participants explored the Five Strategies of The Virtues Project and shared practical examples of how they incorporate virtues into everyday school life.
For schools that have been practising the strategies for longer, the event provided an opportunity to share experiences and approaches that others could learn from. For schools still developing their practice, it offered a chance to gain ideas, ask questions, and explore ways to strengthen character education within their own learning environments.
This kind of peer-to-peer learning helps create connections between schools while encouraging teachers and students to take an active role in nurturing positive relationships. It also supports the broader goal of quality education that recognises the importance of children's social, emotional, and ethical development alongside academic learning.
The day was filled with demonstrations, shared ideas, and meaningful connections among teachers and students. By creating opportunities for schools to learn from one another, the Virtues Exchange Program encourages the continued growth of values-based education and positive school communities.
With continued support, more schools can access opportunities to strengthen teaching practices, develop children's life skills, and make virtues an everyday part of learning.
Together, we can help nurture learning environments where every child has the opportunity to grow in knowledge, character, and compassion.
