Something To Smile About During The Pandemic
Judith Opieba Facilitating Teacher Training
Although the Covid 19 pandemic struck and altered all of our operations, we are fine because we have something that keeps us strong, our virtues; and worth smiling, the great efforts of our students and teachers that virtues inspire. Our class eight exams have left us all smiles despite the odds against us. The diligence, determination, and purposefulness our students practiced leading to high performance are worth celebrating! And so are our wonderful teachers who rose to the challenge to see to it that we helped our online learners who couldn't afford online lessons. We honor our teachers for their purposefulness, kindness, commitment, and sacrifice for following through to ensure that our learners were indeed prepared to match those attending online classes.
Our highest academic achievement candidates had 390 marks and followed each other closely. And before the celebration could calm down, there was the release of the Form Four KCSE Exams where one of our very own emerged as the highest score for a girl in the Subcounty, scooping a B+ mean grade of 70 points. What a remarkable performance from an orphan who struggles and gets help from a widow (who also happens to be her teacher) and who cannot possibly offer everything that the girl needs. Indeed, the virtues of commitment, purposeful, diligence, and determination are working to bring change. She has beaten the odds coming from a humble school, Kilimo Girls, when competing with girls from big schools with big names and affluent families.
We thank you for your continued generous support that is helping us change society by bringing up boys and girls with a good education. We thank you again for the water tanks, your first gesture of support to us, that have played a tremendous role, especially during this Covid19 pandemic, because our learners have been able to sanitize and wash hands as many times as needed to curb the spread of the disease. We thank you for the lunch program, snacks, and especially our spiritual nourishment through The Virtues Project program. We thank you for finding someone in Africa to help us fundraise here in our country too. We trust that he will join hands with others and help us continue putting smiles on the faces of many.
Our biggest challenge now is how to help our orphans, and others, join universities. Thank you so much for standing with us. We see your humanity!
