Fundacion Escuela Nueva will provide effective-proven, high-quality, culturally-appropriate study guides for 68 Colombian rural schools, in Santander, Boyaca, Cudinamarca & Tolima. These study guides complement a teacher training already provided to promote child-centered, active and cooperative learning, improving quality education for over 1.400 children of low socioeconomic status of rural areas where education resources are scarce. Guides can be used for over 5 years for future students.
Lack of quality teacher training and scarce materials for rural elementary education in Colombia. This reality continues to broaden the gap between rural and urban families and perpetuating the cycle of poverty . A teacher-centered approach needs to be transformed into a child-centered and cooperative learning approach that equips and empowers students to learn to learn. Therefore, we propose a solution for this.
FEN will provide self-learning guides designed to promote cooperative and active learning, individually and in groups, which have been proven to be effective. They link learning experiences with family and community and stimulate the development of critical thinking, creativity and higher thinking skills, allowing flexible promotion mechanisms for students to make progress at different rhythms, and finish academic units at their own pace.
Over 1.400 children from rural areas in Colombia will have access to high quality education material, designed specifically for their needs providing opportunities to be autonomous learners and improve their life quality. These children can develop a full potential to be contributing individuals of a flourishing society; reducing inequality and combating poverty. Additionally, these self-learning guides are made in durable materials and with contents that can be used by 8 cohorts of students.
