Antigua and Barbuda Students Association-USA for the 2023-2024 School Year is collecting school supplies. When families face decisions, such as keeping their lights on or their children's bellies full, it means their children's backpacks remain empty. Every school year, these students bear the burden of knowing their families cannot provide the required classroom supplies. If preparation is the key to success, think of the difference it can make for these children to have the classroom tools.
This is truly a trying time. As many people has lost their jobs, due to the Corona virus. Our students will struggle daily for not having the tools needed to help them in schools. "Poverty, regardless of level, is linked to reduced academic achievement." Students who live in poverty come to school every day without the proper tools for success. As a result, they are commonly behind their classmates physically, socially, emotionally or cognitively. Help us to make a change in these students life.
So, how can we narrow the performance gap? One answer is better funding of early childhood opportunities for our students. The Early Learning Initiative provides funding to support children from the start of school across the Island, specifically targeting children with special needs and families. Meeting some of the children's basic needs, like food and healthcare support at school and supplies.
This will have a lifetime impact on the people and the students of Antigua and Barbuda. It will help our students to achieve academic, professional, and communal success by creating a positive, supportive environment for their academic, professional, and social growth.
