These Numbers Have Faces educates and empowers South Africa youth to ignite community transformation. We provide college scholarships within a community impact program that includes mentoring, tutoring, financial literacy and financial reinvestment to young people who would not otherwise have access to higher education. The Student Survival Kits promote student success in the classroom by providing academic tutors, transportation support, food stipends, supplies and toiletries.
The TNHF Student Survival Kit is about surviving and thriving in college. We've found that empowering the future leaders of South Africa isn't just about providing college tuition, but about creating the support structures necessary for success. It's hard to pass your classes if you can't get there in the first place, don't have the right supplies, haven't eaten beforehand, and don't have extracurricular help outside of class.
The Survival Kit Includes: + Transportation Support -- provides a safe and reliable means to get to class + Weekly Tutors -- Academic assistance in English and whatever classes students express need of support + Food Vouchers -- Monthly vouchers to Shoprite, an inexpensive and accessible store located in all the townships + School Supplies and Toiletries -- All the supplies necessary to achieve academic success and personal hygiene.
A college education in South Africa means empowerment, opportunity, and academic equality for township youth. However, without the proper tools to support student success, youth from marginalized communities can suffer greatly within the university system. The student survival kit helps to ensure that TNHF scholars become part of a generation of South African youth who are equipped to break the cycle of economic instability, inequality, and injustice.
