Can you imagine? We set a goal to get other schools involved in the implementation of stoves, water tanks, latrines, and retaining walls, and this year we did it. Three other schools in Comalapa joined forces with the Hero School students to build 10 stoves, 10 water tanks, 3 latrines, and part of a gigantic retaining wall. All of this happened in June, July, and August of 2026 and was in addition to the 6 stoves, 2 water tanks, and 1 compost latrine that we built in May 2026 with our students. On average, each piece of infrastructure benefited 5 people per family. The retaining wall was built to support a water tank that benefits hundreds of people. Although the infrastructure is important, another huge success story was that our student assumed the role of mentor on the projects. Most of our students had already built stoves, water tanks, latrines, and retaining walls. This put them in a position to help the students from the other local schools who were doing this for the first time. When reflecting on the experience they felt pride that brought tears to their eyes. None of this is possible without the ongoing support of the LWH donors and volunteers. You did this. You made this possible. Thank you, from all of us at LWH!
