The core mission of Love City Strong is to ensure that the community of St. John, USVI is prepared for emergencies and natural disasters. Through community outreach and empowerment, stockpiling supplies, and first responder training for our team we seek to strengthen the response capacity of the island.
The US Virgin Islands, due to its location in the Caribbean basin and its inherent infrastructural challenges, is highly vulnerable to natural disasters. Relying on outside help for immediate response is not sustainable. As a US Territory, we do not have access to a variety of readily available federal resources. As the smallest of the US Virgin Islands, St. John is at the end of a long supply chain. Key systems must be put into place to ensure that the community is able to respond and recover.
The three main components of this project are providing our team with dynamic training and professional tools to be effective as first responders; stockpiling supplies in anticipation of an emergency; and community outreach through micro-projects focusing on specific aspects of personal and household preparedness.
This project will ensure that there are pre-staged supplies, tools, and equipment for the community to immediately begin the response and recovery phase after any emergency, and help create a culture of preparedness that builds on the island's inherent resilience.
