Project Report | Sep 9, 2026
Seventh report

By Isabel Chandoqui | Project Leader

During this period, we continued walking alongside 99 Tseltal families in Chiapas to strengthen their health, nutrition, and well-being. We held participatory workshops on anemia and malnutrition, where women learned to recognize their causes, symptoms, and ways to prevent them. We also conducted nutritional monitoring sessions to record children’s weight and height. In cases of anemia, we provided iron supplements and explained to mothers how to administer them correctly. In addition, 96 children received deworming treatment.

We also supported women in strengthening their family gardens. Together, we learned how to prepare planting beds, grow vegetables, produce vermicompost, and make natural insecticides using materials available within their communities. We are happy to see that several families have already begun harvesting fresh vegetables and that husbands and children have joined in caring for the gardens.

During our visits, we followed up on the use of water filters and fuel-efficient cookstoves. Families told us that these technologies help them access safer drinking water, reduce smoke inside their homes, and use less firewood.

One of the most valuable outcomes has been seeing women share their knowledge, seeds, materials, and experiences. This collaboration strengthens their organization and enables them to continue building healthier lives for their families from within their own communities.
