The project of Orbis-Supported National Prevention of Blindness Training Center at the Shenyang He Eye Care System (SHECS) has been kicked-off and the opening ceremony was conducted in January of 2015. Total over 110 participants attended the meeting in Shenyang and below achievements have been done in 2015:
1) 1 PBL manager finished the diploma training on community eye health in Cape Town University and got diploma in November.
2) 1 ophthalmologist trained on retina disease treatment from April to October through Orbis’s domestic fellowship.
3) 1 ophthalmologist trained on retina disease in Japan Kyushu University for 2 months through Orbis’s international fellowship.
4) Total 12 curricula are modified for this training project, including doctor, surgical nurse, refractionist, optical dispensing, optical shop manager, screening camp organizer, PBL manager, counselling person, bioengineer, CHW for children eye disease prevention and residency training, etc.
5) Huludao hands-on training base started 3-6 months county level doctor training on SICS from September. 2 eye doctors were recruited in the training program. At the end of this year, 1 doctors has finished the training, the trainee’s surgical skills is to be assessed by 2 chief doctors in January of 2016. 1 doctor still in the process of training.
6) 8107 adult patients were screened by screening camps in rural area pf Huludao.
7) 1 nurse was trained and got certificate in Huludao training base this year.
8) 1 Strabismus HBP was conduct in Shenyang in September, 3 hands-on trainees were participated in the training and 38 eye doctors were taught by VF’s Lecture.
9) 37 refractionists from county level hospitals were trained on refraction in Shenyang He Eye University, and all trainees passed the test and got certificate from Shenyang He Eye University. 30 of them also participate the qualification certificate examination organized by government in December.
10) 5 ophthalmological residents have been recruited in 3-year residency training program from October.
