The Charles Edet Effiong Foundation, in its unrelenting efforts to restore the hopes of households in the southern part of Cross River State, continued its impactful initiatives in the second quarter of 2025. The focus of this support was on Educational support, Household Economic Strengthening support, Caregivers forum. The Foundation is grateful to you for your timely and continues support. Our Beneficiaries have continued to express their appreciation for helping build their future, (and by extension that of their communities) through the educational support they get from you. These activities where held in Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, and Oban in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
Caregivers Forum (Attendance: 14 – 7 M, 7 F. Date: 21st - 24th October, 2025): The caregivers’ forum was organized to strengthen collaboration between caregivers, schools, and the Foundation, with emphasis on improving children’s relationship with teachers and the school authority. The activities held from October to November 2025 at the different communities.
Key discussions focused on:
Establishing Accountability Structures at Home
Caregivers were guided on setting up consistent routines, household rules, and supervision systems. They were encouraged to monitor peer groups, limit children’s exposure to harmful media, and ensure both rewards and consequences are applied appropriately.
Academic Performance Review
A review of supported children’s academic outcomes revealed that many beneficiaries demonstrated improvement. Caregivers were advised to check schoolwork regularly, attend school meetings, and maintain communication with teachers to address learning gaps early.
Conflict Resolution/Management
Parents where tasked on their responsibility of ensuring that their children do not go against school rules and regulations. If there is any conflict that arise as a result of teacher/student interaction, parents should not escalate the issue but seek ways of resolving issues. Caregivers expressed appreciation for the guidance and committed to improving supervision, communication, and involvement in their children’s education.
Kids Club (Attendance: 30 – 17 M, 13 F. Date: 21st - 24th October, 2025): Kids Club is the activity that gives beneficiaries the opportunity to meet each other, learn basic skills from Foundation staff and address concerns that might be bothering the beneficiaries. Kids Club was organised for beneficiaries in Calabar South, Calabar Municipality and Akamkpa Local Government Areas from October to November 2025 with a total of 30 beneficiaries in attendance. Kids Club promotes conversation and experience sharing amongst beneficiaries. The meeting was conducted as a recreational activity where children had the opportunity to engage in creative expressions.
Respect for Authority: Children were reminded to show respect to parents, guardians, teachers, and elders. This includes greeting politely, responding respectfully, and avoiding unnecessary arguments.
Responsibility at Home: Children were encouraged to complete their assigned chores, help with simple household tasks, and keep their sleeping areas tidy. The importance of contributing to family well-being was emphasized.
Behaviour in School: Children were reminded to maintain discipline during lessons, actively participating in class, avoiding noise-making, and respecting school property.
Good Manners: Children were taught the value of using polite words such as “please,” “sorry,” and “thank you.” Foundation staff stressed that good manners open doors and make relationships easier. Children shared examples of situations where behaving well helped them avoid trouble The staff shared basic life skills and help beneficiaries improve on their educational journey. The beneficiaries their appreciation to you, our dear sponsor for extending your hand of kindness to them through the Foundation. They note that in spite of the current economic realities, you still thought to support them. Beneficiaries sends their best wishes to you and have committed themselves to making you proud.
Educational Support Services: the foundation is poised to contribute to the achievement of SDG Goal 4 - Quality Education, by contributing to the educational needs of vulnerable children in the focal communities. We continue to support children to help them get through school. Educational support is on a need bases after a household visit. Through your support, the foundation is reaching 50 children in both primary and secondary levels including paying for senior secondary examination classes across Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, and Akamkpa Local Government Areas of Cross River State of Nigeria. Below is a breakdown of the children in the various class categories that were supported;
4. Next Steps: Despite funding constraints, the Foundation remains resolute in its commitment. Increase in number of beneficiaries is hinged on funding availability and sustained collaboration with partners. We hope that more people, like you, will support us to reach more children in more communities.
