Q4 2024 Report 

The Charles Edet Effiong Foundation, in its unrelenting efforts to restore the hopes of households in the southern part of Cross River State, continued its impactful initiatives in the last quarter of 2024. The focus of this support was on Educational support, Household Economic Strengthening support, Caregivers forum.

 

  1. Caregivers Forum: In line with the project’s goal, caregivers were sensitised on the provisions of the Cross River State Child Rights Law, 2023 (As amended) (CRSCRL 2023). The meeting was aimed at making the caregivers to become aware of the new provisions of the law that applies to them and their responsibility to their children/wards. This sensitisation will be extended to teachers in school were the Foundation’s beneficiaries are schooling. A key provision that needs emphasising is the criminalisation of corporal punishment by the CRSCRL 2023.

 

  1. Kids Club: Kids Club was organised for beneficiaries in Calabar South, Calabar Municipality and Akamkpa Local Government Areas. It was an opportunity to interact with the Foundation’s beneficiaries and sensitise them on their responsibilities to themselves and their community. They interactive session provided an opportunity for the beneficiaries to share their thoughts on their educational journey and their plan for the future. They send their appreciation to you for the continues support.

 

  1. Educational Support Services: the foundation is poised to contribute to the achievement of SDG Goal 4 - Quality Education, by contributing to the educational needs of vulnerable children in the focal communities. We have continued to support children to help them get through school. Educational support is on a need bases after a household visit. The Foundation mobilized funds and supported 50 children in both primary and secondary levels including senior examination classes in the payment of school and examination fees and levies across Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, and Akamkpa Local Government Areas of Cross River State of NigeriaBelow is a breakdown of the children in the various class categories that were supported;
  • Early Child hood Care and Development - 4 (1F, 3M); Calabar Municipality LGA - 3 (2M, 1F) Akamkpa LGA- 1Male
  • Primary school level-  17 (9M, 8F); Calabar South - 4 (2F, 2 M), Calabar Municipality LGA - 5 (3M, 2F),Akamkpa - 8 (4 M 4 F);
  • Junior secondary level - 15 (12M, 3F); Calabar Municipality LGA- 1M, Calabar South LGA- 5 (4M, 1F), Akamkpa 9 (7M, 2 F)
  • Senior Secondary level- 14 (8M, 6F); Calabar Municipality LGA 2, Calabar South 5 (2F, 3M), Akamkpa LGA- 7 (3M 4F).  

4. Next Steps: Despite funding constraints impacting the original plan of providing small grants to 50 caregivers for business support, the Foundation remains resolute in its commitment. Increase in number of beneficiaries is hinge on funding availability and sustained collaboration with partners. The Foundation will also sensitise caregivers on the need to provide their children/wards with water bottles.
