Third Quarter Report November 2021

SUPPORT 50 VULNERABLE CHILDREN NOVEMBER, THIRD QUARTER 2021 REPORT

In order to fulfill our mission of providing care and support to vulnerable children and their families, Professor Charles Effiong Foundation has continued to support the education of vulnerable children in school. In this preceding quarter under review, the Foundation reached fifty vulnerable children (50; 27 males and 23 females), across four (4) primary and eight (8) secondary schools in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State.

These children were provided with educational support in the form of payment of school fees, provision of school materials, and academic performance assessments during routine school visits paid to the schools by the Foundation’s staff. Individual and family counseling was also provided to children and/or parents to address issues of poor academic performance and other life-challenging situations faced by the children and the family at large.

These were provided to support children in our project communities whose parents do not have sufficient money due to the burden of poverty and increased cost of living. This situation is evident in the increased incidence of out-of-school children in schools in the project communities and also poor school attendance.

Our intervention as an organization has increased school re-enrolment and attendance as caregivers are counseled on the importance of education and thus the need to prioritize the service for their wards. It has also improved the academic performance of children through rigorous engagements and follow-ups with caregivers and the children themselves. Parent-children, as well as the children-teacher relationship, has also improved as our intervention also brings into bear the perspective and support of teachers in the schools.

The psycho-social improvement evident in some of our children are our achievements based on our continuous interventions. This is seen in the attendance of quiz competitions, training, and other competitions. Worthy of note is the Do your Bits Competition participated by one of our children with her classmates. She developed an intervention using micro bits to address the issue of missed ante-natal care attendance by pregnant women.

The Foundation remains grateful for your continuous support in enabling her to achieve her goal of providing care and support for vulnerable households thereby restoring the hopes of many in the society.
