Challenge

The children living on streets have been subjected to unimaginable harsh and unfair conditions. Living under the constant shadow of a flyover, with cars zooming above their heads; wondering on the streets, with their parents struggling to make ends meet- they have never had the luxury of a real home. But the atrocities of their lives couldn't stop them from dreaming. But they could never have an identity in the eyes of the world, due to the absence of a simple card that holds the key to getting.

Solution

Save the Children, through it's on the ground work in the states of Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, is trying to create an enabling environment for vulnerable children living on the streets of India, thereby strengthening their access to identity, leading to right to survival, development, participation and protection.

Long-Term Impact

Facilitating the process of securing an Aadhaar card for each street child, post which they will get to live in a shelter home or be reunited with their parents (if displaced). Parents are also covered under the scope of the programme to secure an Aadhaar card. Linking all of them to various Government schemes and services focusing on education, healthcare, financial inclusion, and skill building.
