DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital sees over 15,000 injured or ill animals every year.  In our FY 2016, 1,509 of the total number of animals seen at DoveLewis were injured or ill strays.  31% of these strays were cats, 21% were dogs, and 48% were 'other'.  Some examples of the 'other' strays seen at DoveLewis are ferrets, wild ducks and geese, wild and domestic bunnies, all types of birds birds - including owls, hummingbirds and raptors, squirrels, and yes, even the occasional Bearded dragon or stray snake.

These injured or ill animals are found by good Samaritans, animal control officers, police and firefighters and brought to DoveLewis at all hours as DoveLewis never closes. DoveLewis is fully staffed and ready 'round the clock every day, including all holidays, to see and treat these animals, giving them expert emergency veterinary care. The medical care provided by the highly-skilled DoveLewis clinical team is available to these injured or ill stray animals because of the wonderful donors who so kindly support the Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund.  DoveLewis scans all stray animals for microchips and is able to reunite animals with their families when the microchip information is current and up to date.  Please  remember to make sure your contact information in your pet's microchip database is always correct and up to date.

Examples of some stray animals brought to DoveLewis recently:

Abandoned dog

This adorable little Shih Tzu mix stray dog was found abandoned in a carrier with a bag of dog food.  He had skin problems and his left eye was small and blind.

Stray ferret

This stray ferret was found wandering the busy streets in a NW Portland neighborhood and brought to DoveLewis by a good Samaritan.

Stray Pug

This young male stray Pug, with lameness, was found by a good Samaritan and brought to DoveLewis.

Abandoned 8 week-old kitten

This adorable, 8 week-old abandoned kitten was found and brought to DoveLewis

Stray Boa Constrictor

This adult stray Boa Constrictor was found by a good Samaritan and brought to DoveLewis on a very cold day in January.  The DoveLewis clinical team worked tirelessly to try and save him, but sadly, he had been outside in the cold too long before being found to be saved.

Your support helps DoveLewis provide emergency veterinary care for these and many other injured or ill stray animals who find their way to DoveLewis. Thanks in advance for your support of DoveLewis Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund,
