January was a busy month at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital for injured or ill stray animals, including dogs, cats, other domestic pets, as well as small birds and wildlife.   94 'strays'  were seen at DoveLewis in January, which is 30 more than the average of 64 stray animals who are usually cared for at DoveLewis in the month of January.   Here are some of the injured or ill stray animals who were helped at DoveLewis because of the generous  people  who so kindly support the DoveLewis Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund. A total of 230 stray animals (dogs, cats, other domestic pets as well as small birds and wildlife) received emergency veterinary care at DoveLewis between January 1 - March 31, 2016.

Injured or ill, lost and abandoned, these stray animals and small wildlife find comfort and medical care at DoveLewis.  Every year, more than 1,300 strays are cared for at DoveLewis, thanks to the good Samaritans, police officers, firefighters and county shelter staff who find them and bring them to our hospital for emergency care.  We scan for microchips and post photos of strays on our online lost and found database.  If you have pets who are microchipped, please be sure that your contact information is current  in your pet's microchip database beacuse that can be their ticket home!  Finding a microchip in a stray is great, but it is disappointing when the microchip has not been registered or the contact information linked to the microchip is not current.

Some stray animals who were helped at DoveLewis because of the Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund:

This adorable stray puppy, thought to be about 12 weeks old, was found and brought to DoveLewis for emergency care  because she had a broken leg.

This elderly female stray Pug, thought to be about 13 yeard old, was found by a 'good Samaritan' and brought to DoveLewis because she was found alone and she was walking in circles.  After she was examined by the veterinary staff, it was surmised that she was blind and possibly deaf.

These are just a few examples of the 230 injured or ill stray animals or wildlife who were seen at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital from January 1st - March 31st of this year.  They send a huge thanks to all our generous supporters who help provide their emergency veterinary care by so kindly supporting DoveLewis' Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund.
