1,394 Injured or Ill Stray Animals Cared for at DoveLewis in FY 2015

By Abby Crouch | Donor Relations, DoveLewis

It was been busy 'round the clock at DoveLewis during the holidays, as DoveLewis never closes, even on holidays.   From Christmas Eve until the morning of Monday, December 28th, 245 injured or ill animals were seen at DoveLewis:  162 dogs, 76 cats, 1 ferret, 2 rabbits, 1 pet rat, 1 bobcat, 1 bird, and 1 squirrel.   Over the New Year’s holiday and following weekend,  it was a little less busy at DoveLewis, with 212 injured or ill patients being seen here. Amazingly, from December 15th to January 15th  45 animals were treated at DoveLewis for having eaten chocolate.

This tiny stray, a healthy 3-week-old black female kitten, was found in Northeast Portland on October 1st.  Thousands of people fell in love with the video below that we posted on Facebook of this talkative kitten chattering away while she was here.

Listen.... This tiny kitten was talking to all the hospital staff

This sweet grey-and-white stray cat was found in Southeast Portland in October and brought to DoveLewis by a Good Samaritan.

This adorable flea-ridden stray American Eskimo dog was found on an exit ramp of a major freeway in the Portland area in November and brought to DoveLewis by a good Samaritan.

In January, this cute little hamster was found in a box with a tamale and 2 socks and brought to DoveLewis.  He enjoyed the hamster food given to him by the clinical team at DoveLewis.

Thanks for your support of the DoveLewis Stray Animal and Wildlife Fund.  Your support makes a difference for all the injured or ill stray animals, birds and small wildlife we care for at DoveLewis. Without the donors who so kindly support the stray program, many animals like these strays pictured above would not have had a second chance.
