Palestinians in Israel and the Occupied Territory have need more than ever for a strategic legal defense of their rights and lands. Building on close to 25 years of legal experience and landmark victories, Adalah is ramping up its fight against racist laws and policies in Israeli courts. To bolster this work, we will also train young Palestinian lawyers to defend their community, and raise media and public awareness of the injustices they face.
Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line face a myriad of human rights abuses by Israel, which are rooted in structural discrimination and prolonged occupation. Palestinian citizens of Israel are denied their basic right to equality. Palestinians in the West Bank face massive land seizures, and in Gaza they struggle under a choking blockade with frequent military attacks. Israeli courts are crucial arenas in which to fight these human rights abuses and to support victims in their cause.
Adalah takes Israeli authorities to court to defend Palestinians against injustice. Our unique identity and expertise - as the only Palestinian-run legal center serving both Palestinians in Israel and in the OPT - are key to our success. We've prevented home demolitions, secured licenses for peaceful protests, overturned bans on Arab parties running for election, obtained permits for patients to exit Gaza, and more. Adalah's strategic legal cases pressure Israeli authorities to respect the rights of Palestinians beyond our own clients. Our interventions have forced the Israeli government to provide schools, clinics, paved roads, and basic services to villages in need. We've blocked discriminatory laws and policies from further harming Palestinians in many fields of life. We've educated new generations of Palestinians about their human rights, and amplified Palestinian stories in the media around the world.
