Dear friends,
June 26th is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Our goals at NKDB are to support resettlement and healing of North Korean torture survivors. As of 2018, NKDB is the only organization dedicated to assist and offer therapy to North Koreans supported by the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture. We believe victims need to be honored and their stories should be known, and thus we are joining forces with GlobalGiving towards our objectives once again!
Most importantly, we would like to thank everyone who supported our first campaign. The $485 contributed to the campaign allowed us to cover psychological therapy as well as the expenses of publishing one storybook (writing, illustration, publication, and printing). The first storybook of the series is “My Third Home,” we have attached a pictures of the cover and some illustrations.
Through this new campaign you will find linked below, the Counseling Team at NKDB is taking a new approach to supporting victims. Publishing storybooks is both used to heal survivors and to raise awareness among members of the South Korean society of human right violations perpetrated in the DPRK. North Korean defectors are no longer passive recipients of advocacy efforts, but become active participants in it.
In NKDB we stand with North Korean victims of torture. We invite you to do the same. Together, we can break their silence and support them as they rebuild their life.
