Project Report | Jul 23, 2014
Report 1 - July 2014

By Dan Graham | Trustee

The project dates have slipped back slightly - due to project commitments in Tanzania with the RNLI and RLSS Commonwealth.  We are now planning to be running a programme in Sudan in March/April 2015.

We are in the final stages of agreeing funding from a significant foundation - and we are continuing our search for another trust fund or foundation to fund the final chunk of the project cost.

We were really pleased to see that our partners - the Sudanese Sea Scouts - were able to take part in the Worlds Largest Swimming Lesson, a Guinness World Record attempt.  They were able to get four different swimming pools in Khartoum on board - and were able to run the swimming lessons at the same time as the rest of the world - the total numbers are yet to be ratified, but the contribution from Sudan was 106 children taught. An amazing effort, and we are really proud of the work that they put in.

As an organisation, we are solidifying our foundations and putting things in place that we are ready to grow in the most efficient and effective way possible.  One thing that we have spent some time working on, and I would like to share with you guys first is "our principles".

We were sometimes struggling to explain exactly what it is that Nile Swimmers does, and how we do it, and most importantly of all - why we do it.  So, with a little bit of brain power, we've come up with this document - linked below.

Finally, the two uninjured trustees (Tom & Dan) are part of a team (called Nile Swimmers) that are adventure racing 600km in 5 days down the length of Wales - in an event called ITERA - to raise awareness and money for Nile Swimmers.

Thank you for your support.
