Project Summary

Violence against women is a deeply entrenched and pervasive issue in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, where entrenched patriarchal structures, weak institutional support, and widespread social stigma make it difficult for survivors to seek help. The “Stop Violence Against Women in Balochistan, Pakistan” project—initiated by the Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP)—is a focused, 24-month initiative designed to create a safer, more equitable environment for women and girls in the province.

The project combines community awareness, direct support services, capacity building, and policy advocacy to challenge the structural and cultural factors that normalize gender-based violence. With your support, we can turn the tide against violence, promote gender justice, and restore dignity and safety to thousands of women in Balochistan.

The Challenge

In Balochistan, the issue of violence against women is widespread, brutal, and often ignored. Key challenges include:

  • Domestic violence, honor killings, sexual assaults, and psychological abuse are common and often go unreported.
  • Child marriages and forced marriages persist in rural and tribal areas.
  • Victims face social ostracization, lack of access to legal or psychological support, and in many cases, retraumatization by state systems.
  • Women have limited legal literacy, and police or judicial services often lack gender sensitivity.
  • Cultural silence around gender-based violence hinders both prevention and response efforts.

Without community education, support systems, and institutional reforms, women and girls remain trapped in cycles of abuse and inequality.

Our Solution

The BRDP approach is holistic, community-driven, and sustainable. Through this project, we will implement the following core strategies:

1. Awareness-Raising and Behavioral Change

  • Conduct targeted campaigns through community sessions, media engagement, and school programs to change harmful social norms.
  • Engage religious leaders, elders, and youth groups to foster community ownership in preventing violence.

2. Provision of Support Services

  • Establish community-based help desks, referral networks, and confidential helplines.
  • Provide counseling, legal aid, and emergency shelter support to survivors.
  • Train community volunteers in psychosocial support and survivor care.

3. Capacity Building

  • Train police officers, social workers, teachers, and local organizations on gender sensitivity and legal frameworks.
  • Empower women’s groups and grassroots organizations to act as first responders.

4. Advocacy and Policy Engagement

  • Collaborate with local and provincial authorities to strengthen enforcement of existing laws.
  • Advocate for the implementation of gender-protection policies, and demand budget allocations for women’s welfare.

Progress to Date

Although the full project implementation will begin once the fundraising goal is achieved, we have already taken critical first steps:

  • $640 USD has been raised and is safely secured in BRDP’s bank account.
  • Internal planning, partner identification, and groundwork for implementation have begun.
  • BRDP has conducted preliminary mapping of high-risk communities where the project will be prioritized.
  • Community engagement tools and training modules are under development to ensure rapid roll-out once funds are available.

Long-Term Impact

This project will not only reduce violence but will lay the foundation for long-term systemic change. Key anticipated impacts include:

  • Reduction in incidents of domestic violence, harassment, and child marriage.
  • Empowerment of women to speak out, seek justice, and rebuild their lives.
  • Gender-equal communities that protect the rights and dignity of all individuals.
  • Strengthened local systems that are more responsive, gender-sensitive, and community-rooted.
  • Transformative cultural change in how women are perceived and treated within society.

Next Steps

  1. Continue fundraising efforts via the GlobalGiving platform to meet the $74,360 goal.
  2. Launch full implementation immediately upon securing sufficient funding.
  3. Provide regular progress updates to donors and stakeholders via reports, newsletters, and social media.
  4. Document impact stories to inspire support and scale the project across more districts.

Conclusion

The “Stop Violence Against Women in Balochistan, Pakistan” project is a life-saving initiative. It is more than just a campaignit is a movement for justice, safety, and dignity. We invite all concerned global citizens, organizations, and partners to stand with us and help build a society where no woman has to live in fear.

Together, we can create a safer future for the women of Balochistan.
