Stop Superbugs: End Dangerous Self-Medication

Project Report | Apr 24, 2026
Misuse of Antibiotics Fuels Dangerous Superbugs

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank you for your interest in the Stop Superbugs: End Dangerous Self-Medication project. At this time, no donations have been received, so the planned awareness campaign has not yet begun.

Across many communities in Nigeria, self-medication and improper use of antibiotics remain common. Medicines are often taken without proper guidance, shared among family members, or stopped before treatment is complete.

These practices increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance, where infections become harder to treat and may no longer respond to common medicines. This creates serious health risks and raises the cost of care for families.

This project is designed to run a 7-day awareness campaign from November 18–24, 2026, combining street outreach and online education. Activities will include community discussions, engagement in markets and pharmacies, and digital messages to guide people on safe medication use.

With the right support, more people can understand the risks of drug misuse, make safer health choices, and reduce the spread of resistant infections.

We appreciate your time in learning about this effort and remain hopeful that support will come so this project can begin and reach communities that need accurate health information.

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
Project Leader
