Update from our Jan 2011 Stop Malaria Campaign

Dear Friends of Ahoto,

Following the success of Ahoto's January 2010 Stop Malaria Campaign, and with significant support from GlobalGiving.org, we planned a second but scaled up sequel to our previous project, dubbed  "Stop Malaria Campaing II" in January of 2011. The Ahoto team led by Timothy Kotin and Mureji Fatunde, traveled to the Central Region of Ghana to carry out the project.

During this month-long project, the Ahoto team and friends from Free Foundation Ghana, our local sister organization, registered over 400 invididuals, comprised mostly of pregnant mothers and children under five for Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme in Essiam and Wiomuah. Our efforts were primarily intended to complement a UNICEF-supported government effort to assuage the burden of malaria through an improved bed net distribution campaign.

Our team also conducted pre-distribution general health and malaria awareness surveys in the communities, as well as extensive impact surveys for our Stop Malaria Campaign from January 2010. Preliminary results from our ongoing surveys indicate declines in malaria incidence among beneficiaries of our previous initiatives, as well as increased use of treated bednets among families and increased voluntary re-registration for National Health Insurance service.

The inhabitants of Essiam, Wiomuah and Akotokyir continue to express their gratitude for your support!

Yeda mo ase!
