Every school day, children in Ituri face the threat of Ebola outbreaks that can spread rapidly through classrooms and communities. This project will protect 10,000 students and teachers by providing Ebola prevention education, hygiene materials, school awareness campaigns, and rapid response training. When 14-year-old Amina heard that Ebola had reached a nearby community, she stopped going to school because she believed every classroom was dangerous. Like thousands of children in Ituri, fear spreads faster than facts. Limited health education, misinformation, and poor hygiene practices increase the risk of Ebola outbreaks in schools. Without prevention, one infection can quickly threaten entire families and communities.
This project will bring Ebola prevention directly into schools across Ituri. Students, teachers, and youth leaders will receive practical training on recognizing symptoms, preventing transmission, handwashing, and responding safely during outbreaks. Schools will receive hygiene materials and awareness sessions that replace fear with knowledge. Every trained student becomes a messenger who helps protect classmates, relatives, and neighbors.
Educated children become lifelong health champions. By building Ebola awareness in schools, this project will create safer learning environments, reduce the risk of future outbreaks, and strengthen community preparedness. Thousands of students will carry life-saving knowledge home, helping families adopt healthier behaviors and creating a lasting culture of disease prevention throughout Ituri.
