For years, families in North Kivu, DR Congo, have suffered from corruption, armed violence, and stolen public funds that should provide schools, water, healthcare, and security. This project trains civil society leaders, youth activists, journalists, and local authorities to fight corruption peacefully through public awareness campaigns, community dialogue, media programs, and citizen accountability actions across Goma and six territories of North Kivu.
Every day in North Kivu, corruption steals opportunities from ordinary families. Public money meant for schools, hospitals, roads, water, and security disappears while armed groups continue to profit from illegal mining and weak governance. In places like Beni, Rutshuru, Masisi, and Walikale, many young people are trapped between poverty, violence, unemployment, and manipulation by armed networks. Fear, impunity, and silence allow corruption to grow deeper across public institutions.
This project will strengthen anti-corruption and peacebuilding efforts across North Kivu by training 30 civil society and youth leaders, organizing public accountability forums, producing 24 anti-corruption TV programs, and launching large-scale awareness campaigns reaching thousands of people. We will also create safe spaces for dialogue between citizens, local authorities, and security services to reduce tension, improve transparency, and encourage peaceful civic participation.
This project will help build a stronger culture of transparency, peace, and citizen participation in North Kivu. Over time, communities will become more confident in reporting corruption, demanding accountability, and protecting public resources. Young people will be less vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups, while stronger collaboration between civil society and authorities can improve trust, reduce conflict, and support long-term stability and development in eastern DR Congo.
