This project is providing HPV vaccine to 1000 (one thousand) boys and girls between the ages of 11-12 years in Nigeria whose parents cannot afford the lifesaving vaccine. This vaccine will protect them from Human papilloma virus infection that causes cervical cancer. Hence this project will save the 1000 (one thousand) beneficiaries from cervical cancer and other related cancers (cancer of the Anus, penis,).
All women are at risk of being infected with Human papilloma virus (HPV) which is sexually transmitted. 80% of the new cases of HPV infection occurs in the low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. There is no HPV vaccination program in Nigeria to prevent the infection with Human Papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer. Every year about 9,000 Women dies in Nigeria from cervical cancer with about 15,000 new cases. With HPV vaccine these deaths are preventable
This project will provide HPV vaccine to 1000 less privileged, vulnerable boys and girls between the ages of 11-12 years. This project will create the awareness and the need for the availability and accessibility of the HPV vaccine. Through the provision of this vaccine the beneficiaries will be saved from being infected with HPV that causes cervical cancer, hence they are saved from the burden of cervical cancer in the future
The potential long term effect are : the beneficiaries have become aware of the importance of the HPV vaccine in the prevention of cervical cancer, this awareness will spread in the community hence more people will come up and request for HPV vaccine. furthermore this will reduce the incidence of HPV infections in the community. finally the mortality from the cervical cancer will be reduced.
